VENICE, FL - Currently the city of Venice is updating it's sign ordinance. Trying to be more business friendly while maintaining the visual quality of the city.

Some business members in the community say the city keeps them from getting the attention they need with strict codes. Those with the Venice Olive Oil Company say they've had to put their tube dudet named "Olive" inside. They say the simple metal stick figure brought people to their end of Venice Avenue.

Council Member David Sherman says it's a slippery slope and the rules won't make everyone happy. He's one who is concerned with too many signs taking away from the look of the historic downtown.

Coming up this evening on ABC 7 we'll take a look at where the city is tightening it's belt and relaxing in other areas.
