VENICE, Fla. -- There's been some interesting finds in our area when it comes to fossils. Some of them are on display in the Smithsonian and some are also now on display in Venice.
A new fossil showcase at the Venice Museum and Archives highlights what has been unearthed in our area, including the remains of animals like Saber Tooth Tigers and Rhinos, Mammoths and Mastodons -- and don't forget the Megalodon Sharks teeth -- all found right here in our backyard.
Curator Michelle Harm says many are surprised by what's right below us. "I've noticed a lot of people are shocked and surprised to learn about the different animals that lived here. It's amazing the creatures on land and sea that lived in the Venice area and Sarasota County as a whole. Just mind boggling."
The new display will be up until June 4th.
Coming up at 6 o'clock on ABC 7 we'll show you what was found in Venice in the 1920's which is now on display at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
