VENICE, FL - The city council is apparently unhappy that Sarasota County is taxing city residents the same amount as other areas of the county, even though the city police have primary jurisdiction.

The city  does use some of the sheriff's department services, but deputies do not patrol in the city, and they only respond to calls if requested.

Venice Mayor John Holic wants to discuss cutting the tax amount that residents pay to the sheriff's office.

7 South Newsroom Reporter Josh Taylor is following the story, and talking to all parties involved.
