NORTH PORT, FL (WWSB) - Less than one week after a 22-year-old man was found dead, detectives have tracked down the man they say committed the murder. 26-year-old Marquis Harris was taken into custody and is facing a second degree murder charge in connection to the death of Jaqavies Rivers.
Earlier this week, Rivers was found shot to death in the 2400 block of Roxbury Circle. Harris, According to the North Port Police Department’s Criminal Investigations team, Harris lives across the street from where the shooting took place.
Detectives believe that Harris got into an argument with Rivers about a previous burglary, then Harris pistol whipped Rivers before shooting him in the head.
Police interviewed Harris and executed a search warrant at a home in the 7600 block of Wexford St. There, they found a handgun with DNA evidence on it and a spent casing in the barrel. The gun matches the description given to detectives as the one used to shoot the victim.
Harris is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
