Tornado Warning issued for eastern Manatee County

The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a Tornado Warning for Southwestern Hardee County, Northwestern DeSoto County, and Eastern Manatee County until 6:00pm.

At 5:31pm, National Weather Service meteorologists detected a tornado near Myakka City moving east at 35 mph.

The tornado will be near...7 miles south of Myakka Head by 5:40pm, Limestone by 5:55 pm, 8 miles south of Ona by 6:00pm.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: The safest place to be during a tornado is on the lowest floor of a building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.

If in mobile homes or vehicles, evacuate them and get inside a substantial shelter.
