MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. - Some fear plans that calls for the emplacement of large groins to prevent beach erosion on Longboat Key will ruin one of the area's most iconic spots, Beer Can Island.
LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. – Professional tennis has returned to the Suncoast. This weekend some of the world's best players compete all this week on Longboat Key. The 7th annual Sarasota Open began this weekend and goes through next weekend at the Longboat Key Resort Tennis Gardens. The tournament founder said they're trying to appeal to non-tennis fans as well this year. Tournament Director, Tony Driscoll, said “We really try to make it an entertainment experience! We will have bands every night in the stadium Monday through Friday of this week and then the final weekend we have a very high end art festival from New York City. So it's going to be a great experience for families and everybody who loves tennis and wants to have a great entertainment experience!". The tennis matches begin at 11:00am all week. Tickets start at $20 and the finals are next Sunday.
