NEW YORK (AP) — The Dow Jones industrial average is closing above 16,000 for the first time. It climbed 109 points to 16,009. Good news on the job market pushed stocks higher. Jobless applications fell last week to the lowest level since September. The number of applications is close to where it was before the Great Recession. The S&P 500 rose 14 points to 1,795 and the Nasdaq rose nearly 48 points.
Another cold front will move through today, this one will produce some low level cloudiness and an occasional sprinkle or two across the Suncoast. We will see this front hang around the morning on Thursday and then push through late Thursday afternoon.

NEW YORK (AP) — Major stock indexes have ended a holiday-shortened trading session mixed. The stock market closed at 1 p.m. Eastern Time and trading was light. The Nasdaq rose 15 points to close at 4,059, but the Dow fell 10 points to 16,086, and the S&P 500 edged down one point to 1,805. The drops were small enough, however, that the indexes logged another weekly gain. It was the eighth straight weekly gain for the S&P, its longest run in a decade.
