According to the Sarasota Police Department, Morrison walked into the 7-Eleven on 17th Street and U.S. 301 early Wednesday morning and walked behind the counter, telling the clerk "Bro, I got something to tell you."

One dead in Venice boat crash Sunday

It happened Sunday just before 7pm behind Venice High School. Police say a 37-year-old Venice resident, John Antolak was driving a boat when it suddenly veered into the rocks along the banks of the waterway.

Man arrested for stabbing at Osprey party

Shortly after midnight Saturday night, deputies were called to a party of about 40-50 people in the 500 block of Sarabay Road in Osprey, the second police response at the party that night.

The Sarasota Police Department responded to the call at the 4000 block of Old Bradenton Road around 9:45 a.m. Police say the child's father returned home from a scooter ride, heard shots fired and then called police.

Sarasota 7-Eleven robbed early Wednesday morning

According to Sarasota Police, the suspect was seen in the store about an hour earlier, when he asked the clerk for $20 but left when the clerk refused.

Inmate who escaped from Venice Hospital has been caught

Ricky Dingler was hospitalized on Tuesday when he complained of chest pains following his burglary arrest by the Venice Police Department. Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office corrections personnel were supervising Dingler but he ran from his hospital room about 12:30 p.m.

Search for shark's teeth in Venice turns up WWII relic

Visiting from Plano, Texas this summer, Wes Kirpach, his wife Kerry, and mother-in-law Paula Pratt were filming a dive just off the Venice coast. "We were actually diving for megalodon shark’s teeth." They soon found something else -- a plane that likely crashed seven decades ago as men and women trained for World War II.
