MANATEE COUNTY, FL---The first day of school is right around the corner, which means parents and teachers have begun the process of getting ready.  But, that preparation comes with a price.

Teachers says they can spend up words of $300.  But initiatives to help educators cover those cost are in the works.  Gov. Rick Scott pushed for a state-funded debit card worth $250 that would be issued to every teacher to spend on classroom supplies.  The card would not be taxed but it would not be delivered until September, well after the first days of school.  Which is the reasons 60 of the 67 districts, including Manatee and Sarasota counties have declined to participate in the program.

Teachers in those districts will still get their $250 for classroom supplies from the state.  But the money will come through their paychecks or in a separate check from their school district and it will be taxed.  A move many teachers were not happy with.

Coming up at 5, we explore some of the cost teacher have to shell out for the school year.
