Teen found shot dead in Bradenton street Thursday night

BRADENTON, Fla. - Police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old Bradenton teen found shot dead in a Bradenton street Thursday night.

Officers received reports of a gunfire around 8:44 p.m. and arrived to find the body of the victim in the 2500 block of 13th Avenue East.

An investigation is under way by the Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit, and they are talking to witnesses.

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Dakota Smith, who lives just two blocks away from the scene.

Smith was a student at Horizons Academy High School in Bradenton. Grief counselors are assisting any students at the school who may need it.
