SARASOTA, FL - The State Board of Education released grades for elementary and middle schools Friday.

Eight Manatee County schools received F grades, and nine schools received a D grade.

The picture looks better in Sarasota County where no F or D grades were handed out.

The latest round of scores comes after the state made changes to the grading standard that would likely lower the number of failing schools.

The state grades, which are A through F, are used as a way to reward well performing schools, and put pressure on those that do not.

The full report can be viewed at schoolgrades.fldoe.org.

ABC 7 Reporter John McQuiston will have more on how Suncoast schools performed and compare to the rest of the state.
