SARASOTA, FL --- Scammers target Suncoast residents; a Sarasota homeowner says her property was put up for rent without her permission. It’s one of the latest rental scams officials are warning about.

According to reports, someone from Nigeria is behind a posting that told potential renters to sent a deposit, plus first and last months rent for a home the didn't belong to them.  The ad, which was placed on several popular real estate websites, also encouraged people to visit the property.  The home owner says she became aware of the postings when people began showing up at her home.

The property is for sale.  Its believed the scammers used that information to create their ad.  Coming up on ABC 7 at 5 we'll have more one the trend and what you can do to avoid becoming a victim.
