SARASOTA, FL - The recreational and commercial stone crab claw harvests open Oct. 15 in state and federal waters.

The harvests continue through mid-May. Fishermen are hopeful that this season will provide a better haul than last year, which saw an overall low volume of crabs.

Less crabs mean higher prices at the dinner table. So, for several reasons, those who enjoy eating stone crabs are rooting for the fishermen.

7 South Newsroom Reporter Josh Taylor is covering the story.
