The heat wave continues in the east while a cold front gets closer.

This is the time of the year when the jet stream becomes increasingly important to forecasting weather in Florida. Currently there is a dip in that river of air back to the west and an arc in the east. This permits warm air to lift north along the eastern seaboard and bring something of a heat wave. We have had several days in the 90's with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above the average all the way to the northeast. We will have a mostly dry day today with a continuation of the warm afternoons. Highs in the 90's with acceptable humidity.

A weekend cool front will bring noticeably cooler and less humid air to the Suncoast with highs in the mid 70's and lows in the low 60's.
