Second suspect arrested in North Port homicide case

NORTH PORT, FL (WWSB) - A second suspect has been arrested surrounding the murder of 22-year-old Jaqavies Rivers.

42-year-old Michael Hendricks Jr. has been charged with Accessory to Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Weapon or Ammo by a Convicted Felon.

"Mr. Hendricks lives at the home where the murder happened. We have evidence which shows he conspired to cover up the crime and lied to authorities during the investigation," says Josh Taylor, Public Information Officer for the city of North Port.

Hendricks originally told police that he found Rivers after returning to his home from Fort Myers and had no information regarding how the death occurred.

As the investigation progressed, detectives on the case received information from eyewitnesses that Hendricks had lied to police about his knowledge of the shooting and worked to hide evidence from authorities.

Earlier this week The North Port Police Department arrested 26-yr-old Marquis “Choppa” Harris for the Murder.
