HOUSTON, TX. (WWSB) - CNN and other news sites are reporting former First Lady Barbara Bush has decided not to seek any further medical care as her health continues to fail. She is resting comfortably at the Bush family home in Houston.
Mrs. Bush is 92 years old and suffers from COPD and congestive heart failure. She has been in and out of the hospital multiple times over the last year or so.
Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath tweeted the following statement:
"Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care. It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving."
Mrs. Bush and President Bush (41) have been married for 73 years.
There was no indication given that she was in immediate danger.
