SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Matt Wieters is hardly a grizzled veteran at 26. Yet, he's also enough of a presence for the Baltimore Orioles that he's quickly becoming the stoic leader on a team with World Series aspirations.

The two-time All-Star catcher has become equal parts tactician and psychiatrist for a pitching staff that helped Baltimore make the postseason for the first time in 15 years. The former first-round draft pick says Baltimore's loss to the New York Yankees in the AL division series stuck with him long after the season was over.

Teammate Brian Matusz came up through the system with Wieters and says not much has changed since they first met in the Arizona Fall League in 2008. Matusz says one of Wieters' best attributes is his sense of timing, knowing what buttons to push to get a pitcher to succeed.
