Ben Zobrist was selected by the Astros in the sixth round of the 2004 June Draft.

Zobrist was acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays on July 12, 2006, and spent time between the minor and major leagues before being recalled for good on August 5, 2008. In 2009, Zobrist was named to his first All-Star team, and became the first player to start at seven different defensive positions in one season for the Rays.

In 2011, Zobrist led the Rays in runs (99), hits (158), doubles (46), and extra-base hits (72), all career highs. He also led the team with a career-high 156 games played and led all major league switch-hitters in extra-base hits and doubles. His 260 walks over the past three seasons are the 10th most in the majors and 3rd most in the American League.

Zobrist was the Rays’ Opening Day right fielder this season, but has also played second base this year as well. Ben and his wife, Julianna, have a 3-year-old son, Zion, and welcomed a daughter, Kruse, last September.

Ben’s wife is a Christian alternative recording artist, and he has used her songs as his "walk-up" music at Tropicana Field. Zobrist recently visited an elementary school in the Tampa Bay area as part of the "Take Zobrist to School" promotion.
