Venice baseball heading to championship game Saturday

FT. MYERS - The defending champion Venice Indians baseball team defeated Chiles High School 4-0 at JetBlue Park Friday to set up a return to the Class 7A State Championship game Saturday afternoon.

Venice got the scoring started early, with RBI singles from Brandon Elmy and Mike Rivera in the first inning.

The Indians held the 2-0 lead until the sixth inning, when Ryan Miller and Jordan Haarer had back to back RBI hits to extend the lead to 4-0.

Tyson Albert pitched 7 shutout innings for the Indians, striking out six and allowing only 4 hits.

The Indians will face Haines City at 4:05pm at JetBlue Park in Ft. Myers.

The Indians have outscored opponents 21-1 in their four playoff victories, which includes shutouts in their last three games.
