FT. MYERS, Fla. -- -2-time defending champion Venice High’s baseball team marched into JetBlue Stadium for their state semi-final game against Winter Haven Wednesday night.

Dalton Guthrie led off the game with a single up the middle, but that was the last hit the Indians would get until the final inning.

Brandon Elmy pitched well until the 4th. The Blue Devils had 1-0 lead when Tobias Myers laid down a squeeze bunt and everyone was safe, 2-0 Winter Haven.

The pitcher Trent Gantt then hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 after 4 innings.

The Indians had a chance in the 5th with 2 on and no outs, and then 2 on with 1 out, but an inning-ending double play ended their hopes for a 3rd straight state title.

Winter Haven won 3-0 to end another magical season for the Venice Indians.
