BRADENTON, Fla. - A Manatee High athlete was chosen in the Major League Baseball draft Friday.
Cord Sandberg was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round with the 89th overall pick.
Many believed Sandberg would be chosen during Thursday night's first two rounds. But some teams may have passed him by because of Sandberg's football talents.
He has a scholarship waiting to play quarterback at Mississippi State after helping lead the Manatee Hurricanes to a state championship his junior year.
But his future may belong in baseball with the Phillies. He has until next month to sign a contract with the team.
