PORT CHARLOTTE - American League Cy Young Award winner David Price was only 1-4 this season and struggling when a triceps injury put him on the shelf. Price is now making his way back to the Rays, and he wants to be back now.

In his 2nd rehab start for the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Wednesday, the best pitcher in baseball last year made a case that he is ready to return to the Rays rotation.

"It felt good to have some good results out there. I felt as good as I did in Bradenton. My legs weren't shaking, which was good. It’s about getting into it, getting repetition."

Price threw 72 pitches in the start -- 54 of which were strikes -- and he hit 95 mph on the radar gun. He feels his strength and stamina are at a point that would allow him to return. “I didn't feel tired whatsoever out there, which is good. Like I said, with the humidity out here it can take a lot out of you."

The Rays management have a timetable for his return, although he is not necessarily privy to it; neither is he going to argue with whatever the decision is in regard to his next step -- at least not argue with words. "I guess whatever I did out there will be my lobbying. I don't know the plan. They have always got one; they fill me in day-by-day and that's probably the best for me."

Price thinks he is ready, the fans are ready, but the Rays brass may want a little more before they are ready. "Obviously, the decision is not in my hands. I put my best foot forward. I was very good and to have the results and throw the ball the way that I did was very good."
