BRADENTON - The Suncoast is basically "Buckeye South" as so many Ohioans spend time down here. And now that Urban Meyer coaches Ohio State football, more eyes -- and ire -- are directed at the Buckeye State. All differences are put aside though, when Archie Griffin wants to help out the kids.

Over 40 celebrities, whether former Ohio State stars, or other sports stars, come to the Concession Golf Club every year to play golf and raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. "I have always believed that the youth is our future, and they should have every opportunity to succeed. The Boys and Girls Clubs make that possible with the programs they have," says Griffin.

It is not too difficult to get guys into to town to play golf on a beautiful course in great weather, not to mention the fact that they get to see all their old playing buddies. "The Buckeyes, they really stick together. It was really good that Arch invited me over and I got to play on a great course, and it’s a great day," says OSU grad and former Miami Dolphin Bob Brudzinski.

It helps that the competitive natures of these guys has not diminished either. One putt by former Buckeye safety Michael Doss put his team ahead for a bit. "I have a great group of guys and we are just enjoying it. That putt was for birdie. We are 3 holes in and we are 3-under, so I think we might be ahead on the course."

With Doss was Pirates broadcaster and former World Series hero, Steve Blass. We wondered what a guy from Connecticut by way of Pittsburgh who had nothing to do with Buckeye football was doing here. "Well, you know I played 3 years in Columbus, so I’m very familiar with the grey, the red and the scarlet. And shame on us if we don't come out and support these things like the Boys and Girls Club. What a facility, this is like playing golf in heaven…it’s just great.”
