BRADENTON, Fla. -- It was a long night for the IMG Academy Ascenders in the first annual Armour Bowl against the St. John’s College High School Cadets of Washington D.C. on Friday.
The Cadets took advantage of Ascenders miscues, forcing turnovers and handing IMG Academy its first-ever home loss to open the regular season by a score of 35-2.
IMG Academy’s lone score came on a safety when DT Ryan Fines, a Miami commit, crashed through the Cadets’ offensive line for a sack six yards deep in the end zone.
The game marked the first annual Armour Bowl, an annual cross-country rivalry game to be played between IMG Academy and St. John’s College High School. Next year, IMG Academy will travel to Washington D.C. to face St. John’s and try to bring the Armour Bowl Shield to IMG Academy.
Next up, the Ascenders will travel 1,150 miles to Plano, Texas to take on the Prestonwood Christian Lions on September 5th. Kickoff is scheduled for at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. CST.
