This was an unusual night for Suncoast high school football, as rain delays and cancellations dampened the schedule. Many were delayed for over an hour due to lightning in the area. Some, like Booker at Riverview were postponed, and won't be made up.
You could argue the Manatee High plays better when it rains. They are the Hurricanes. After a miserable first half, the team proved they remain the top team around. They scored 35 unanswered points to beat the Venice Indians 35-14.
Next week, Manatee is at home again, while Venice plays Riverview. An interesting storyline in that game: Venice QB Dom Marino faces his old team. He transferred from Riverview this school year.
A big surprise tonight was the lack of offense from Lakewood Ranch. Last week, they scored over 50 points to beat Southeast. Tonight, the Mustangs only scored 7, during a 31-7 loss to Jesuit.
Let's hope the rain holds off next week.
