Week 1 of the high school football season is in the books, and Venice High proved they will once again be a force to reckon with, as they defeated the Palmetto Tigers 32-7. The team's new quarterback, Riverview transfer, Dom Marino looked extremely good in week one.

Riverview also seems to be a team to watch this year. After defeating Palmetto in the Kickoff Classic, head coach Todd Johnson led his team to a another big victory, defeating Bayshore 30-13.

Lakewood Ranch's offense exploded tonight for 55 points to defeat Southeast, a team that went 8-2 last year.

Now, we wait to see how the top team on the Suncoast will do. The 65th nationally ranked Manatee Hurricanes travel to Gilman High School on Sunday to face another nationally ranked team, the Gilman Greyhounds.
