SUNCOAST -- After one game, one thing is clear: Venice may be this year's biggest powerhouse on the Suncoast.
With a freshman quarterback, the team was able to defeat another team expected to make the post season this year, the Palmetto Tigers, 46-44. Like last season, Langston Provitt proved once again, he will be one of the most discussed players this season.
One thing is not for certain after tonight's first games, and that's how the Manatee Hurricanes will perform this year. (That's probably the first time anyone has ever said that). With a sophomore quarterback in A.J. Colagiovanni, who did not perform well in the team's opener against Ware County in Georgia, Canes fans can only stay optimistic at this point that the team will play well against teams within the district, even without a guy named Kinnan on the sidelines.
It was ALSO a long night for the IMG Academy Ascenders in the first annual Armour Bowl against the St. John’s College High School Cadets of Washington D.C. on Friday.
The Cadets took advantage of Ascenders miscues, forcing turnovers and handing IMG Academy its first-ever home loss to open the regular season by a score of 35-2.
