2012 high school football playoff scenarios for November 2nd:
Class 8A-7:
-North Port & Riverview have been eliminated from playoffs
-Friday’s game between Palm Harbor University & East Lake will determine district champion and runner-up (Update: East Lake won)
Class 7A-10:
-Undefeated Manatee (2-0,8-0) is highly favored to clinch as district champs with a win over Sarasota (1-1,3-5). (Update: Manatee wins, is district champ)
-Venice (1-1,6-2) is highly favored to defeat Braden River (0-2,0-8), clinching district runner-up. (Update: Venice wins, is runner-up)
Class 7A-11:
The district is still up for grabs.
-If Charlotte (2-0,5-3) defeats Port Charlotte (1-1,6-2), and Lemon Bay (1-1,5-3) defeats Gulf Coast (0-2,2-6), then Charlotte and Lemon Bay make the playoffs.
-If Charlotte and Gulf Coast win, then Charlotte are district champs and the other three teams face off in a three way playoff for runner-up.
-If Port Charlotte and Lemon Bay win, those teams would face off in a three way playoff with Charlotte to determine champion and runner up. (Update: This is the scenario that played out. All three teams face off in three-way tiebreaker at Port Charlotte on Monday. Charlotte plays a one-quarter game against Lemon Bay, loser is eliminated, and winner plays Port Charlotte in another one-quarter game to determine district champ.)
-If Port Charlotte and Gulf Coast win, Charlotte and Port Charlotte would play a playoff game to determine district champ and runner-up.
Class 6A-7:
-Lakewood Ranch (3-1,5-3) plays Osceola (3-1,6-3) Friday to determine the likely district runner-up. (Update: Lakewood Ranch lost, and does not make the playoffs.)
-Undefeated Largo is expected to clinch district championship with win over Tarpon Springs (1-3,3-6). (Update: Largo is district champ.)
Class 5A-10:
-Palmetto (3-0,7-1) and Southeast (3-0,7-2) face off Friday to determine district champion and runner-up. (Update: Southeast defeated Palmetto.)
Hardee, DeSoto, and Bayshore have been eliminated from playoffs contention.\
Class 4A-6:
-Booker (3-1,3-5) can clinch a tie for first place with a win over Dunbar (4-0,7-1) Friday.
-If Booker loses to Dunbar, they would need Clewiston (3-1,3-5) to lose to LaBelle (1-3,4-4), forcing a playoff game between Booker and Clewiston to determine district runner-up. (Update: Booker lost and Clewiston won, eliminating Booker from playoffs.)
Class 3A-6:
-Cardinal Mooney (0-2,4-4) has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Class 2A-5:
Bradenton Christian (3-4,3-6) has been eliminated from playoff contention.
Class 2A-6:
-Out-of-Door Academy (3-3,4-4) and St. Stephen’s (1-5,2-6) have been eliminated from playoff contention.
