PORT CHARLOTTE - Three Suncoast high school football teams faced off in a 3-way tiebreaker Monday night to determine the district champion and runner-up in Class 7A-11.

Charlotte, Lemon Bay, and Port Charlotte all finished district play with 2-1 district records, but only two could make the playoffs.

Port Charlotte had the best overall record, so they had a first quarter bye.

So Charlotte faced Lemon Bay in a 1-quarter playoff, in which Charlotte stopped Lemon Bay's 2-point conversion attempt to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

They advanced to the 2nd-quarter to face Port Charlotte, where Austin Taylor kicked a 50-yard field goal as time expired to give Charlotte the 10-7 victory and clinch the district championship.

The 3rd-quarter pitted Lemon Bay against Port Charlotte to determine district runner-up.  Lemon Bay returned an interception for a touchdown on their way to a 14-0 victory over Port Charlotte, sending Lemon Bay to the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

Charlotte will host 7A-12 runners-up Martin County on November 16th, in a rematch of last years playoff game that Martin County won 14-10.  Lemon Bay will travel to Ft. Pierce that same night to play Ft. Pierce Central.
