VENICE, Fla. – A long-time Suncoast high school football rivalry between two top teams will likely come to an end in 2014.

The Manatee Hurricanes and Venice Indians were a huge district football rivalry until districts changed going into the 2013 season. But the two area powerhouses agreed to keep each other on the schedule, and Manatee hosted their match-up with the Indians last season.

The Sun Herald reports that Manatee had a handshake agreement to play at Venice in Week 2 of the upcoming season, but the ‘Canes needed to schedule one more home game, so the school dropped their game at Venice.

It hurts Venice High in its pocketbook because the Manatee game is the school's biggest money-maker.

Manatee has a current 7-game winning streak against Venice, including three playoff games.
