Jameis Winston was given?

Deputies were initially called out to the store around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. An off-duty deputy and employees of the store identified Winston as the individual who walked out of the store without paying for the groceries. Major Wood says Winston is also seen on surveillance video in the store.

During a post-miranda interview, Major Wood says Winston admitted to taking the groceries, telling deputies he forgot to pay.

Winston was not arrested, but given a civil citation. This, Major Wood, says is for non-violent first time offenders with no criminal history. With both Jameis and Publix agreeing to only having a civil citation issued, Winston must complete 20 hours of community service.

In the meantime, Jameis Winston will be absent from the baseball diamond. FSU Head Baseball Coach Mike Martin released to us the following statement:

"As a result of his citation last night, we are suspending Jameis Winston from the baseball team," Coach Martin said. "I am confident he will complete his community service obligation and the situation will be resolved soon."

Head Football Coach Jimbo Fisher also released a statement: "I fully support Coach Martin's decision and will also make sure that Jameis meets all obligations, which I know he will."

Last football season, Winston led the football team to an undefeated 14-0 record, and helping the Noles win their first national championship since 1999. In the process, Winston also won the 2013 Heisman Trophy, becoming the youngest winner in the history of the award.
