SARASOTA, Fla. - His father was a star football player at Riverview High School, but Shawn Bane, Jr. is doing everything he can to bring the Ram's crosstown rival, Sarasota High, back to prominence.

Bane, Jr. has picked up just where he left off last season. The rain Friday night could not keep him from scoring 3 out of the 4 times he touched the ball in the Sailor’s win on Saturday. "I gotta tell, you we are a little spoiled the last 2 years. We were happy and excited that it happened, but I would be lying if I said it was new and surprising," says Sailors head coach Ed Volz.

The Sailors have other weapons, but they need the senior wideout to lead them if they are to get into, and go far in, the playoffs.

"I obviously want to beat my records of last year; 11 touchdowns and 60 receptions. So that is always a goal of mine. Honestly, I think we can win our district and go deep into the playoffs," says Bane, Jr.

So far, in just 2 games, Bane has 175 yards receiving and those 3 touchdowns on just 5 receptions. “It makes coaching a lot easier. When you have players like that when they get the ball in their hands and tend to make plays. It makes us better coaches," says Volz.

He has heard from some of the bigger D-1 schools like Miami, Clemson, auburn, and USF. But he has another school in the back of his mind. "I honestly don't know, but I kind of like Oregon. A fast, little offense, you know?"
