BRADENTON - The Manatee Hurricanes football team is #2 in the state out of all the schools in classes 5A to 8A. Demarcus Christmas, their defensive standout, is a huge reason why the ‘Canes are undefeated.

Christmas has been starting on the Manatee defensive line for 3 years now. He is a state champion, and he is the senior leader on the #1 team in state Class 8A.

Christmas leads a team of younger, but talented defensive players for this undefeated ‘Canes team. "We will replace the people we lost last year and become better than we were last year."

"We are building around Demarcus Christmas, who is going to Florida State. We have a lot of gifted athletes on defense, but they just don't have experience yet," says Hurricanes head coach Joe Kinnan.

As Coach Kinnan said, Demarcus is headed to Florida State. That is where Kinnan played his football.

Last week, he and the ‘Canes defense held Sarasota High to just 12 yards rushing on the way to a 66-7 blowout win.

Congratulations to Demarcus Christmas of Manatee High School. He is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
