VENICE - The Venice Indians volleyball team has its sight set on another state title this season. If they are to do that, they will need a big assist from Taylor Jais, our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.

Jais is helping the Indians live up to the old saying, defense wins championships. “She is one of the best defensive players in the state of Florida; outstanding student, outstanding leader, and just a great kid,” says Venice head volleyball coach Brian Wheatley.

She is great because she never gives up, never stops competing on the floor. “I love the competitiveness. I mean, when I'm out on the court playing, my head is completely into the game. I'm all in, and I'm just…I'm there to compete. And that's what I love about volleyball,” says Jais.

She competes not only on the court, but in the classroom as well, and she competes very well there, too. “Taylor has got a 4.6 GPA, she’s got a 2100 on her SAT, and that's one of the reasons she's gonna be playing at Harvard next year,” says Coach Wheatley.

This is Jais's final chance to culminate her 4-year plan. “For four years everyone's been saying ‘we're going to be state champs in year’, and it hasn't happened yet. I really want to make that title happen.”

Congratulations to Taylor Jais of Venice High School, she is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
