BRADENTON, Fla. - The Manatee Hurricanes girls cross country team just missed out on the regionals in 2012, in Sydney Britt's sophomore year. But Britt had quite the season.
Sydney Britt is on the rise. As a sophomore runner at Manatee High, she led the ‘Canes in every race but one.
“Sydney is amazing. She is a multi-sport athlete, so I knew she would be a good runner. I really didn't know how good until this year," says Hurricanes cross country coach Rae Ann Darling Reed.
She has talent for sure, and she also might just be the most competitive ‘Canes runner. "She is one of the most competitive runners I have seen in a long time. She reminds me of myself when I was in high school," says Coach Reed.
"My dad was a really big track runner, so in middle school I decided to run cross country. My coach and my teammates really push me harder," says Britt.
Her personal best was 21:08 this season, but she has aspirations of getting into the 20 minute range. "I like the sense of accomplishment I get from winning or getting a PR (personal record)."
"Oh yeah, just with that work ethic and that competitive fire, the sky is the limit for her," says Reed.
Congratulations to Sydney Britt of Manatee High School. She is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
