SARASOTA - The Riverview Rams got their first win against Braden River last week, and they host Palm Harbor this week. In the meantime, they are discovering a very good QB-wide receiver connection. That wide receiver is our Athlete of the Week.
Richie James scored 2 touchdowns in the Kickoff Classic and he has been quarterback Dom Marino's favorite target ever since.
It is nice being on the same page as the QB. “You get most of the receptions, most of the yards, you get the ball thrown to you a lot…it's great,” says James.
Like his head coach, Todd Johnson, James is a track star in the 400 meters as well as a burgeoning football star. “Just a joy to be around, and fun to watch on Friday nights; the way he plays, the way he lifts this team up, and is just a true all-around good football player,” says Coach Johnson.
The 3.3 GPA student had his best game against Braden River when he scored on an 88-yard punt return, and then a 30-yard pass reception from Marino.
He has scored in 3 different ways this season. “Richie’s commitment level to this team is unmatched, and I think it shows with his play on the field where he is able to score three touchdowns in three different aspects of the game. But also off the field, where he was voted team captain by his teammates,” says Johnson.
“It really is a great program, so I love playing for Riverview,” says James.
Congratulations to Richie James of Riverview High School. He is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
