MANATEE COUNTY - Recently, Sara Bay Country Club hosted the 19th annual Donald Ross High School Invitational, and the Lakewood Ranch boys won it for the 2nd straight time. Luke Miller led the way as he won in a 4-hole playoff. Miller is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.

A recent arrival from Pennsylvania, Luke was not on the state championship team last year, but he is helping put them in position to win another. “To be a part of a high school team that wins the state championship that we can say we’re the best in the state,” says Miller.

Miller, a sophomore, is home-schooled, but he has been playing golf since he was 7. And he has taken quickly to the strong Mustangs team, and they to him. “He is kind of like everybody's little brother. He fits right in with this crazy bunch that I’ve got. He has really has taken to everybody; we got a group of personalities that really work well,” says LRHS golf coach Dave Frantz.

His talent plus his desire and work ethic make Miller a coach’s dream. Coach Frantz is glad that Miller is his dream and that he doesn't have the nightmare of coaching against him. “Luke’s just got a great heart for the game. He is never satisfied because he is so into it, wants it so badly…he’s very talented, very consistent. His greatest attribute is, I think, his desire.”

Congratulations to Luke Miller of Lakewood Ranch High School, he is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
