Athlete of the Week November 14th: Kadi Pallastrone of Riverview

SARASOTA, Fla. - Last Wednesday, she won a state golf championship. This Wednesday, she signed a letter of intent to play golf in college, and today she is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.

In order to become the first-ever girl to win a state golf championship for the Riverview Rams, Kadi Pallastrone had to come from behind, and then outlast her opponent in an 8-hole playoff.

Grueling, but worth it. "It was amazing. I would have never thought I was going to win a state championship. I just went into it thinking I wanted to have fun and play your best in once and a lifetime opportunity. So, when I did play well, and win, it was amazing," says Pallastrone.

"I have never seen anything like it. 8 holes at that high of a level is something you see once in a lifetime," says Riverview golf coach Joe Angelo.

Not only did she have to endure that playoff, but at one point during the playoff, Kadi was faced with a do-or-die putt -- and it was no ordinary putt, either. "I had a 30-foot putt from off the green to make my par to keep the match going, and I hit the putt. Everybody was going crazy. It was awesome."

"I have been coaching for 12 years, my assistant Josh Harris and I, and we have never seen anything like that," says Angelo.

Kadi has signed on to play golf at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. When she leaves Riverview, she will leave knowing that she is the first and only state champion in their girl’s golf team history. "I never would have imagined, so to be this one person that everyone is going to be talking about is great. I am glad I could do that and represent the school."

Congratulations to Kadi Pallastrone, a state champ from Riverview High School. She is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
