BRADENTON - Ellie Berdusco's swim coach at St. Stephen's, Lee Cucchi, says that Ellie is one of those special athletes that you just know will be successful. And Berdusco is doing her best to make that stand up. She is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
This is the 4th time that Ellie Berdusco will swim at the state championship meet since St. Stephen's allows varsity swimming as early as 7th grade. That experience may separate her from her competition. “This is like the 4th time I’m going, so I sort of have the experience with it. I’m pretty excited, I know what it’s going to be like,” says Berdusco.
Saturday for the Falcons she will swim in the 200 meter freestyle, the 500 meter freestyle, and the 200 meter freestyle relay. The first two are individual races, but Coach Cucchi says Ellie is all about the team experience.
“So I’m pretty excited this year, because this is the first year that our relay team is going for the first time,” says Ellie.
She not only believes in the team concept, she knows that to get where she is going, and hoping to go, you need a good support group as well. “I’ve always had a great coaching staff, my parents are supportive of me, great teammates to push me along the way, and I’ve just had good experiences.”
She is ready to go and lay it all on the line Saturday. That is all one can hope for at this point of the season. “I’m just going to try my best, then whatever happens, happens.”
Congratulations to Ellie Berdusco of St. Stephen's Episcopal School. She is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
