BRADENTON, Fla. - Last week, Trevon Walters had a huge game to lead the Manatee Hurricanes into a playoff matchup with Fort Pierce Central for a 3rd straight year. Here’s a closer look at the ‘Canes' star running back.
In last week’s regional quarterfinals, Trevon Walters blew the doors off Vero Beach with 41 carries and 284 rushing yards.
“He had a keck of a game. We don’t normally give the guy the ball that many times, but that’s how the game dictated. I know we called a couple quarterback runs so he could catch his breath, but we told him he’s gotta suck it up and go,” says head coach Joe Kinnan.
That sets up a rematch with Fort Pierce Central, whom the ‘Canes beat last season 51-0 after Walters scored 3 first half touchdowns.
“My team counts on me to do big things, so I just pushed and kept pushing, and we got the victory,” says Walters.
He has committed to play in college at Missouri, but he has unfinished business here before he can worry about college. “Hopefully we can go to states. That’s our plans to do…just keep winning.”
“I think he’ll do well. Right now we’re just trying to get him out of high school…get one win this week, and move right up the ladder,” says Kinnan.
Congratulations to Trevon Walters of Manatee High School, he is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
