BRADENTON, Fla. - The Southeast Seminoles girls soccer team took on Largo Thursday night in the regional quarterfinals. The main reason the ‘Noles were there was Daryl Bell, our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.

The term ‘scoring machine’ can be overused at times in sports, but in the case of Bell, it is perfectly appropriate. Going into the playoffs, she had scored 34 of the teams 55 goals on the season.

"Her athleticism is top of the line. Her skills are above what we've been playing. She is just one player you don't want to be playing against," says head coach Shane Cline.

In her senior year at Southeast, Bell scored those 34 goals over the course of the season, but 14 of them came in just 2 games. She had two 7-goal games as she pushed he team into the playoffs. "I couldn't believe it myself. I lost count during the game. I was just focusing on getting the ball in the back of the net and working with my team," says Bell.

Her coach says her drive, talent, and knowledge of the game are unmatched, so he can use her strategically depending on the opponent.

"I can play anywhere…forward, midfield, outside-mid. I've got the speed. I can read the plays, the game so it works pretty much anywhere," says Bell.

“If you want one word, she's a game-changer. In every game we have played, she is always the best player on the field…always," says Cline.

Congratulations to Daryl Bell of Southeast High School, she is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
