SARASOTA - When this week’s ABC 7 Athlete of the Week was young, he loved football, but he got bored waiting for the season to start. Now, Henry Ford is not the car maker, but he is the guy that drives the Sarasota Christian basketball team.

Henry is in his 3rd year with the Blazers, and his improvement has come both on and off the court. “When he first came to the school he was struggling academically, and he’s gotten better and better. Last year he was improving learning how to become a good student. And then this year he’s really gotten a lot of traction. So I think it's been a good fit for him,” says head coach Phil Helmuth.

His namesake became synonymous with driving the American roadways, and Ford is similar in that aspect. “I really like driving to the basket. Like just going to…getting contact, just like playing….I like the tempo of it.”

He has become an all-around player in his senior season, racking up 17 points per game, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. He also adds to the team concept. “He is learning how to be a good leader. I don't know of anybody who doesn't like him. He loves to have a good time, he keeps things in balance, and this year he is becoming more and more consistent,” says Coach Helmuth.

“When you get the crowd going and your team going, it's just like the whole scenery just like feels real good. Especially when you’re doing good,” says Ford.

Congratulations to Henry Ford of the Sarasota Christian School. For his hard work on, and off the court, he is our ABC 7 Athlete of the Week.
