WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTXL) U.S. Representative Steve Southerland, II has voted in favor of the House Select Committee to investigate the Benghazi attack.
Southerland participated in the 232-186 vote that fell largely along party lines, with Democrats criticizing the committee as politically motivated.
Southerland released a statement, blaming the White House for in his view not being forthright about its response to the attack.
“This Administration’s continued refusal to divulge information to the American people regarding the Benghazi attack has left Congress with no recourse but to take action," said Southerland.
"I am hopeful that today’s vote will be the first step in ensuring we get answers for the families of the victims and deliver justice to those who brought them harm.”
Four Americans were killed in the 2012 attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
