Sarasota Police: Case 14-042545 Aggravated Assault

UPDATE: July 31, 2014:

An arrest has been made after an aggravated assault occurred on a Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) Bus on Saturday, July 19, 2014.

Albert Junior Singletary, 31, of 2828 Suncrest Drive, Sarasota, has been charged with felony aggravated assault. He was arrested on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The victim told detectives she was riding a SCAT bus to work when Singletary came and sat near her on the bus. During the ride, Singletary attempted to engage the victim in conversation however she tried to ignore him.

Singletary asked for the victim’s name and she gave it. The victim said Singletary began to repeat her name incessantly. The victim told detectives Singletary asked for her phone number and she refused to give it.

The victim said Singletary got up from his seat and with his back to the front of the bus, removed his back flip phone, wallet and a light blue/silver box cutter knife from his pocket. The victim advised Singletary opened the knife to reveal the blade. The victim said Singletary brandished the knife and then closed and put it away. The victim then exited the bus.

Previous arrest photographs of Singletary were compared to the video surveillance (which can be viewed at http://youtu.be/3pbqo4_zdQU). Additionally, phone records indicate the phone number placed to the victim’s phone is registered to Junior Albert.

Albert Junior Singletary has been charged with felony aggravated assault after he intentionally and unlawfully threatened by word or act, to do violence to the victim.

Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are currently investigating an aggravated assault that occurred Saturday, July 19, 2014.

The victim told detectives she was riding a Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus to work, when a suspect in his late 20's to early 30's came and sat near her on the bus.

During the ride, the suspect attempted to engage the victim in conversation, however she tried to ignore him. The suspect asked for the victim's name and she gave it. The victim said the suspect began to repeat her name incessantly. The victim said he then asked for her phone number and she refused to give it.

The victim said the suspect got up from his seat and with his back to the front of the bus, removed his black flip phone, wallet and light blue/silver box cutter knife from his pocket.

The victim advised that the suspect opened the knife to reveal the square blade. The victim said the suspect brandished the knife and then closed it and put it away.

It's unknown at this time where the suspect got off of the SCAT bus.

The victim describes the suspect as:

Black male

6'0", 160lbs,

Black hair,

brown eyes,

thin build,

Late 20's- early 30's.

Suspect was last seen wearing a light colored t-shirt, dark colored shorts, sneakers and a white Miami Heat flat-bill ball cap with green and red accents.
