SARASOTA CO., FL - It's been a long time since Sarasota was hit by a major hurricane, but that doesn't mean the area is immune to the danger.

With that, and incidents like the BP oil spill in mind, county officials are preparing for the day that disaster strikes.

Sarasota County is using a team of post-disaster experts to help update the county's Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan.

The plan deals with housing, infrastructure, and environmental repairs, financial considerations and long-term recovery issues.

Why is it important, and how will help save the Suncoast in the wake of a disaster?  7 South Newsroom Reporter Josh Taylor is on the story.
