Prescription drug deaths fall in Florida

SARASOTA--The State Attorney General's office says that in 2012, deaths from overdoses of Oxycodone fell by forty-four percent. Overall, prescription drug deaths fell by almost ten percent.

Addiction specialists at Manatee Glens in Bradenton say these numbers are "delightful." This is an epidemic that they have been battling for the past four to five years.

Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight says the results are part of a team effort by law enforcement, the medical community and educators. He admits that as the pill abuse declines, addicts are turning to other drugs like heroin or meth to get their fix.
