NORTH PORT, FL - The city of North Port is one big step closer to starting work on hundreds of miles of pot hole riddled roads.

For years residents have complained. City leaders saying there just wasn't enough money to fully tackle the issue. In November of last year the majority of voters in the city approved a nearly $41-million bond.

Wednesday city officials like city manager Jonathan Lewis learning the financing has been completed. "We are just excited. It's as our current Governor said. We want to get to work. We are excited to have the bond proceeds in and we are ready to get going."

Those who live on one of the bumpy roads like Barb Wall are holding out hope it will happen soon. "That is good news. I just hope they are able to follow through and that they have enough money to do all the streets that need doing badly."

The project will cover 266 miles of streets. The city is also using other funds for maintenance of all the other roads in North Port for years to come.

Nearly all property owners will be paying an extra $46 a year for the next 26 years. Crews should start work in the Spring.
