MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – A Myakka teenager is dead after being ejected from a car in a single-vehicle accident.

It happened around 7:30 Friday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 15-year-old was behind the wheel of a Scion TC, driving on a dirt road at Falkner Farm, south of State Road 64. The FHP report indicates there were three passengers– ages 18, 14 and 12 – meaning there was no licensed driver at least 21 years old in the vehicle. That's a requirement of Florida law when the driver only has a permit, though the report did not state whether the driver in this instance had one.

FHP said the driver lost control of the vehicle and went down an embankment. The car would eventually overturn, and the driver was ejected into a pond. The other three involved in the crash pulled the 15 year old from the water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FHP report said nobody was wearing a seat belt, and two of the three other passengers suffered minor injuries. Alcohol was not involved.
