BRADENTON, Fla. -- An olive drab, 1943 Willys model M.B., later called a Jeep, is now on permanent display at a Bradenton auto dealership.

The Jeep saw action on Yellow Beach in southern France during World War II D-Day operations, and was purchased by the dealership to honor veterans in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

"I've been to France twice, and seen the remnants of World War II, and it gives you shivers," said Robert Firkins, owner of the dealership and former member of the Florida National Guard. "It was natural for us, having the Jeep franchise since 1975, to want to get an authentic Jeep for our area veterans."

The Jeep can be seen at Firkins Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Bradenton.
