SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - All month long we've been talking about different ways residents can prepare themselves for the hurricane.
According to Ready.gov you should not only have a kit for yourself but also your pet.
Kits should include your contact information just in case you and your pet gets separated while in the evacuation center.
Your kit should also have at least a 3 day supply of food and water.
Also don't forget to have your pet's registration, adoption and vaccination documents on hand.
Ready.gov also says putting together a first aid kit would not be a bad idea.
They suggest you pack things like flea and tick prevention, latex gloves and antibiotic ointment.
One last important thing to pack are sanitation items like litter, a litter box, paper towels, plastic trash bags and a small container of bleach.
It's good to remember hurricane centers would be a new environment for your pet so they will most likely feel out of place.
Bringing familiar toys, bedding and treats can help reduce stress for your pets.
